Opportunities for Artists
Dot to Dot has an established and successful pathway for emerging artists and others wishing to work in participatory arts.
Artists will usually be expected to have a degree or several years experience in their artform.
After an initial interview, artists will first be offered the opportunity to ‘shadow’ more experienced artists on a project and will receive a token fee.
If both Dot to Dot and the artist feels this has gone well, the artist will then be offered a half-fee on another project and subsequently progress to full fees when appropriate project work is available,
Most of the work Dot to Dot can offer artists is on a freelance basis; artists are responsible for their own income tax and National Insurance Contributions. Some larger projects and all salaried posts are advertised and subject to interview.
Artists usually work in pairs, sometimes combining two different skills or artforms. Dot to Dot CRB checks and insures artists, and has Equal Opportunities and Child Protection policies.
Dot to Dot issues artists with freelance artists handbooks, containing much useful and relevant information.
On completion of projects, artists are expected to provide short project reports or artists’ diaries before receiving their final fee.
Dot to Dot undertakes outreach, plans projects, purchases materials and usually provides equipment, arranges workshop schedules, publicity and insurance. This enables freelance artists to work in well run and successful projects and this work is reflected in the fees paid.
Experienced artists are sometimes involved in the planning and preparation of project work, and this is also fee-paid.
